A Rapid Intervention Crew (RIC) member's primary responsibility is to ensure their safety and the safety of others while performing their duties. When encountering a hazardous atmosphere, the most prudent and immediate response is to exit the area and notify command.

This course of action is based on the understanding that hazardous atmospheres can pose serious risks, including toxic gases, low oxygen levels, or other dangerous conditions that can affect a firefighter's health and ability to function effectively.
